Beat The Heat, Winston-Salem, NC
Record: 3-1-0 – Semifinalists
Recap: A Fantastic Weekend
Briefly: The Lunachicks had been struggling in the Spring and nobody was sure how they would handle their first post season tournament. In short, they had their best tournament performance so far. The team was on fire during the group stage, winning all three matches by shutting out all three of their opponents. They played what was likely their best soccer ever in their second match, much to the excitement of their coaches and parents. Hoping to finally make the finals of a tournament, they faced off against a strong team from Tennessee. Despite matching up to their opponent quite well and possessing the ball often, the Lunachicks would allow three fluke goals and fall 0-4 despite a number of solid scoring chances. It was a tough loss for the girls, but did not do much to dampen the excitement of all that the girls had found that Lunachick magic again.

Recap: The Clash In The Cold
Briefly: Following the Lunachicks trip to Charlotte, the team headed back to Greensboro for their last tournament of the Fall season. They played well in the group stage, going 1-0-1 with an exciting draw against the SSA Crush and a decisive win against a CASL team that had beaten them in Challengefest. However, they lost in the semifinals to a Charlotte team who scored all three of their goals off free kicks and the Lunachicks couldn’t find the back of the net enough to counter.

Record: 0-2-1
Recap: A Classical Kind of Weekend
Briefly: This was a unique tournament for the Lunachicks. Knowing they might move up to Classic in the Spring, the coaches felt it would be good for the girls to get some experience playing Classic teams. So we asked that they be placed in a Classic bracket for this tournament, and were they ever! They were put into the Premier Division of the tournament and their group was arguably the toughest group in the Division. This was also the first true ‘away’ tournament for the girls involving a hotel stay which they loved. The girls didn’t know they would be playing Classic teams – we simply told them they would be facing strong teams. They did VERY well on Saturday, holding the eventual champions to one goal at halftime and almost beat their second opponent until an own goal with a few minutes left tied things up. So while the result wasn’t fantastic, the girls gained a LOT of experience and had a lot of fun
Fall 2008 Triad Challenge League – U12 Girls
Record: 5-3-2 – Finished in 7th place out of 16
Recap: The Lunachicks came out on fire in the first half of their fall season, going 5-0-0 with a +18 goal differential, allowing only 3 goals in those five matches. However, after the mid season break, the team struggled to continue their winning ways, going 0-3-2 to close out the season with a -7 goal differential. This was a difficult season for the girls as they definitely expected to do better than they did, but found themselves in a significant slump, scoring just over one goal per match. Both players and coaches did some significant self assessment to try and figure out what happened. So in the end, it was quite a learning experience! The good news is that by finishing in 7th place out of 16, the team will likely end up in the top bracket of their Spring division, ensuring they face strong opponents throughout the season.

Record: 1-2-0
Recap: Despite an extremely strong showing in their first match, the Lunachicks faltered in the first half of their second match, allowing their opponent to get a goal ahead of them. The team had many goal scoring opportunities that ricocheted off the post and defenders, and were stopped by the keeper diving backwards towards the goal, but they were unable to even things up in order to advance.
