NC State Games 2008, Greensboro, NC
Record: 2-2-0 – Semifinalists
Recap The Lunachicks had a very strong showing at the NC State Games. After winning both of their matches on Saturday, they advanced to the semifinals against a team that had beaten them handily in the Fall. In one of the most exciting matches this season, the girls tried to pull even in a frantic final five minutes, but eventually fell to the ICRD Lady Fire 2-3. In extremely hot weather and after a draining semifinal match, the Lunachicks lost the Bronze medal match and finished in 4th place.
NCYSA Challenge Festival 2008, Winston-Salem, NC
Record: 1-2-0
Recap: A tough outing for the Lunachicks, though the final match on Sunday against GYS Silver was very close and exciting.
TCL Spring 2008 Season
Record: 6-2-0
Recap: The Lunachicks had a fantastic Spring season, improving their record significantly. However, the proof of how far they had come was in their losses. They lost a nail biter to TCYSA Silver 1-2 after having lost to the same team 4-0 in the Fall. They then played a very tough match against the #1 team in the division, nearby rival BSC White, who had beaten the Lunachicks 1-9 in their very first match as a team. In the Spring the Lunachicks held BSC White to only three goals in a 0-3 loss. Huge progress for a team that started out 2-6-2 in the Fall.
FVAA Presidential Classic 2008, Raleigh, NC
Record: 2-2-0
Recap: At their pre-season warmup tournament, the Lunachicks showed how much they had improved with a strong showing against teams from CASL, TYSC, and FVAA. Despite a +2 GD, the team lost two very close matches to CASL Raptors (0-1) and CASL Shocks (0-1). This tournament was memorable for the sandstorm conditions it was played in.
Challenge Clash 2007, Greensboro, NC
Record: 0-2-1
Recap: The Clash was a disappointing outing for the team. After showing gradual improvement every week in the regular season, they hoped to finish the season with a strong showing at the Clash, however they were unable to get a win and finished well out of the semifinals.
TCL Fall 2007 Season
Record: 2-6-2
Recap: The Fall 2007 season was the first season for the team and the first travel soccer experience for all but one of the players. They drew a very tough schedule with their first two matches against two of the best teams in the division. After giving up 15 goals in two matches, the girls managed to gradually improve, keeping most matches within 2 goals and winning two matches.
Challengefest 2007, Winston-Salem, NC
Record: 1-2-0 – Semifinalists
Recap: The team’s first major tournament was a good experience, after a rough start to their regular season. Finishing 1-1-0 in group play, the team advanced to the semifinals. In a close and exciting match, the Lunachicks looked like they might advance to the final, but after letting in a goal, were unable to equalize, despite numerous chances, and lost 0-1.
BCBS Fall Classic 2007, Chapel Hill, NC
Record: 0-1-1
Recap: The Lunachicks traveled to Chapel Hill to play in their first matches as a team at the BCBS Fall Classic. In a fun first match, the girls scored five goals, but also allowed five, ending in a 5-5 draw against a good TUSA team. In their second match, they lost 0-3 to the FC Cary Dynamo, but hung in until the end trying to earn a goal. IN all a good experience for the team to start to get used to travel soccer.
