The Lunachicks had their best tournament performance so far at the 2009 beat The Heat Tournament. On fire during the group stage, the girls won all three matches by shutting out all three of their opponents. They also played what was likely their best soccer ever in their second match, much to the excitement of their coaches and parents. Facing off against a strong team from Tennessee in the semifinals, the Lunachicks would allow three fluke goals and fall 0-4 despite a number of solid scoring chances. It was a tough loss for the girls, but did not do much to dampen the excitement of all that the girls had found that Lunachick magic again.

The Lunachicks had a very strong showing at the NC State Games. After winning both of their matches on Saturday, they advanced to the semifinals against a team that had beaten them handily in the Fall. In one of the most exciting matches this season, the girls tried to pull even in a frantic final five minutes, but eventually fell to the ICRD Lady Fire 2-3. In extremely hot weather and after a draining semifinal match, the Lunachicks lost the Bronze medal match and finished in 4th place.
